Thankful for the natural light streaming in the old windows. I am up here today packing up some books to be mailed to customers and I am so thankful for each and every order. Curfew on the island was lifted yesterday just in time for all Ocracoke Halloween loving adults to be able to hit the streets tonight in all kinds of wonderful costumes. Andy is working in the electric, Cynthia and I are removing screws and shelves from the walls, and Beaver is directing the lumber arrival. It is a beautiful day in the island and we keep reminding ourselves that progress is being made. Heather stopped in yesterday and she has many fabulous ideas for the shop. I think y'all will like them. Instagram post 2158993658328826069_3018974756 If only these walls could talk, what interesting stories we would hear. Built in the late 1800's at a time when a 2x4 was truly 2"x 4". As much as I hate all the demolition that has been done to Books to be Red, I absolutely love seeing inside these walls. No phone lines, no water lines, only a couple of electric lines to be seen. I love it. Every now and again I will have a World War Two veteran come in the shop. They will tell me stories of bunking here during their Ocracoke service. I have even had them tell me of ghosts in the house. Well, I already know there is a ghost.
