A beautiful day on the island. Wear your galoshes A beautiful day on the island. Wear your galoshes and not your Louboutins!
Today was the commemoration ceremony for the sinki Today was the commemoration ceremony for the sinking of the HMT Bedfordshire. In May of 1942, a German U-boat torpedoed the Bedfordshire and four of her English sailors washed ashore on Ocracoke. It is one of my favorite ceremonies to attend. I wasn't able to today because I am traveling. I did, however, pick up a new historical novel that is set on Ocracoke. In a nice turn of serendipity, the novel starts off the first couple of chapters with the sinking of the British frigate. It will be interesting to read a fictionalized account of that fateful day.

Home again, home again! It is a beautiful day for Home again, home again! It is a beautiful day for a ferry ride to Ocracoke. I learned something today about ferry reservations, heads up to you. If you make your ferry reservation online and it says No Spaces available, give the ferry terminal a call. When I was looking it said No Availability at all on Swan Quarter or Cedar Island for Friday. Wrong - there was a glitch and there is plenty of availability. We should remember not to trust technology all the time. It may not work out every time but do call and try.

Books to be Red will be open on Saturday, May 13th. Come in for a visit!

This is Tom. Tom is from Hillsborough, NC and he i This is Tom. Tom is from Hillsborough, NC and he is doing the @mountainstoseatrail . He is the second person I have had in my shop in the last couple of weeks doing the trail. Jonathan, from Durham was the first. I have never talked to anyone doing the trail and have become smitten with the idea. (No, I won't be trying it). I would love to invite folks to stop at my shop, let me hear a bit of your story, and we will get you a water or snack. Be safe out there and have a great time trekking the state of NC!
Ocracoke is a sweet place to do a zero day, see that, I am learning the terms.
